ThemostbitterormostbigotedofhisChristianorJewishfoeswillsurelyallowthatheassumedafalsecommissiontoinculcateasalutarydoctrine,lessperfectonlythantheirown。Hepiouslysupposed,asthebasisofhisreligion,thetruthandsanctityoftheirpriorrevolutions,thevirtuesandmiraclesoftheirfounders。TheidolsofArabiawerebrokenbeforethethroneofGod;thebloodofhumanvictimswasexpiatedbyprayer,andfasting,andalms,thelaudableorinnocentartsofdevotion;
