  AnthonyWallnerreturnedwithhissharpshooterstothePustervalley,andadvancedthenceagainstGeneralRusca,whowascomingupfromCarinthiawithhiscorps;heintendedtodefendthefrontiersofhiscountry,againsthimandGeneralBaraguayd'Hilliers,whowasalsoapproachingwithastrongforce。
  JosephSpeckbachermarchedhisintrepidmentotheZillervalleyandtheMuhlbachPass,whereheunitedwithJoachimHaspinger,andadvancedwithhimupontheenemy。

  Inthedeadofnight,however,hewassuddenlyarousedfromhissleep。CajetanDoeningerstoodathisbedsideandinformedhimthattheintendantofthePustervalley,BaronvonWorndle,hadarrivedwithanenvoyoftheEmperorFrancis,BaronvonLichtenthurn,andbothwishedurgentlytoseethecommander—in—chief。
