ThereneverwasanAmericansuchasyouandIareuntilaftertheRevolution,whenithadallbeenfoughtoutandlibertysecured,aftertheadoptionoftheConstitution,andtherecognitionoftheIndependenceofAmericabyallpowers。
WhilewereveretheFourthofJuly—andletusalwaysrevereit,andthelibertiesitconferreduponus—yetitwasnotanAmericanevent,agreatAmericanday。
