　　TheeffectofhiswordswasevenmoreterriblethanwhatIhadanticipated。BothAugustusandPeters，who，itseems，hadlongsecretlyentertainedthesamefearfulideawhichParkerhadbeenmerelythefirsttobroach，joinedwithhiminhisdesignandinsisteduponitsimmediatelybeingcarriedintoeffect。Ihadcalculatedthatoneatleastofthetwoformerwouldbefoundstillpossessedofsufficientstrengthofmindtosidewithmyselfinresistinganyattempttoexecutesodreadfulapurpose，and，withtheaidofeitheroneofthem，Ihadnofearofbeingabletopreventitsaccomplishment。Beingdisappointedinthisexpectation，itbecameabsolutelynecessarythatIshouldattendtomyownsafety，asafurtherresistanceonmypartmightpossiblybeconsideredbymenintheirfrightfulconditionasufficientexcuseforrefusingmefairplayinthetragedythatIknewwouldspeedilybeenacted。

　　and，asIhadanticipatedabreezerapidlycomingin，thefogliftedbeforethehourhadexpired，when，novesselappearinginsight，wepreparedtodrawlots。
