　　ThewholeofthecountryadjacenttotheDesert，fromKurumantoKolobeng，orLitubaruba，andbeyonduptothelatitudeofLakeNgami，isremarkableforitsgreatsalubrityofclimateNotonlythenatives，butEuropeanswhoseconstitutionshavebeenimpairedbyanIndianclimate，findthetractofcountryindicatedbothhealthyandrestorative。
　　Thehealthandlongevityofthemissionarieshavealwaysbeenfair，thoughmission-workisnotveryconducivetoeitherelsewhereCaseshavebeenknowninwhichpatientshavecomefromthecoastwithcomplaintscloselyresembling，iftheywerenotactually，thoseofconsumption；
　　andtheyhaverecoveredbytheinfluenceoftheclimatealone。
　　Itmustalwaysbeborneinmindthattheclimatenearthecoast，fromwhichwereceivedsuchveryfavorablereportsofthehealthoftheBritishtroops，isactuallyinferiorforpersonssufferingfrompulmonarycomplaintstothatofanypartnotsubjectedtotheinfluenceofsea-air。
　　Ihaveneverseenthebeneficialeffectsoftheinlandclimateonpersonsofshatteredconstitutions，norheardtheirhighpraisesofthebenefittheyhavederivedfromtraveling，withoutwishingthatitsbracingeffectsshouldbecomemoreextensivelyknowninEngland。

　　NothingcanexceedthebalmyfeelingoftheeveningsandmorningsduringthewholeyearYouwishforanincreaseneitherofcoldnorheat；
　　andyoucansitoutofdoorstillmidnightwithouteverthinkingofcoldsorrheumatism；oryoumaysleepoutatnight，lookinguptothemoontillyoufallasleep，withoutathoughtorsignofmoon-blindness。
