Iwastoldthattheseweremytutors,andwiththematrainofroyalpageswhoweretobemyservants。

ThentheyplacedmeinalitterandcarriedmedownthehillChapoltepec,andalongcausewaysandthroughstreets,tillwecametothegreatsquareofthetemple。
Beforemewentheraldsandpriests,aftermefollowedpagesandnobles,andeveraswepassedthemultitudesprostratedthemselvestillIbegantounderstandhowwearisomeathingitistobeagod。
Nexttheycarriedmethroughthewallofserpentsandupthewindingpathsofthemightyteocallitillwereachedthesummit,wherethetemplesandidolsstood,andhereagreatdrumbeat,andthepriestssacrificedvictimaftervictiminmyhonourandIgrewsickwiththesightofwickednessandblood。
Presentlytheyinvitedmetodescendfromthelitter,layingrichcarpetsandflowersformyfeettotreadon,andIwasmuchafraid,forIthoughtthattheywereabouttosacrificemetomyselforsomeotherdivinity。
