  “AndifIrefuse,whatthen?“
  “ThenthecurseofJahvehshallbeonyou,Pharaoh,andwithplagueuponplagueshallhesmitethislandofEgypt。“
  NowasuddenrageseizedMeneptah。

  “IntheNameoftheLordGodwecurseyou,Pharaoh,whosoonshalldieandmakeanswerforthissin。ThepeopleofEgyptwecursealso。Ruinshallbetheirportion;deathshallbetheirbreadandbloodshalltheydrinkinagreatdarkness。Moreover,atthelastPharaohshallletthepeoplego。“

  “OPharaoh,“hesaid,“bepleasedtohearken。WehaveheardveryevilwordsspokenbytheseHebrewmen,wordsthatthreatenyourdivinelife,OPharaoh,andcalldownacurseupontheUpperandtheLowerLand。Pharaoh,thesepeopleofIsraelholdthattheysufferwrongandareoppressed。Nowgiveme,yourson,awritingunderyourhandandseal,byvirtueofwhichIshallhavepowertogodowntotheLandofGoshenandinquireofthismatter,andafterwardsmakereportofthetruthtoyou。Then,ifitseemstoyouthatthePeopleofIsraelareunjustlydealtby,youmaylightentheirburdenandbringthecurseoftheirprophetstonothing。Butifitseemstoyouthatthetalestheytellareidlethenyourwordsshallstand。“
