  AndthefoundingofasocietyinEnglandin1881,”togathertogethersomeatleastofthemanyadmirersofRobertBrowning,forthestudyanddiscussionofhisworks,andthepublicationofpapersonthem,andextractsfromworksillustratingthem”hasalreadycontributedmuchtowardspayingalong-standingdebt。
  Mr。Browning’searliestpoems,`Pauline’hecallsitintheprefacetothereprintofitin1868”aboyishwork”,thoughitexhibitsthegreatbasalthoughtofallhissubsequentpoetry,waspublishedin1833,sincewhichtimehehasproducedthelargestbodyofpoetryproducedbyanyonepoetinEnglishliterature;andtherangeofthoughtandpassionwhichitexhibitsisgreaterthanthatofanyotherpoet,withoutasingleexception,sincethedaysofShakespeare。
