  Acoarsewhitedress,ofthesimplestform,hadbeensubstitutedforherOrientalgarments;yettherewassuchanexquisitemixtureofcourageandresignationinherlook,thateveninthisgarb,andwithnootherornamentthanherlongblacktresses,eacheyeweptthatlookeduponher,andthemosthardenedbigotregrettedthefatethathadconvertedacreaturesogoodlyintoavesselofwrath,andawagedslaveofthedevil。
  AcrowdofinferiorpersonagesbelongingtothePreceptoryfollowedthevictim,allmovingwiththeutmostorder,witharmsfolded,andlooksbentupontheground。
