Afteragobbledbreakfast,Ferrismountedtotheseatoftheagedbuggy,signaledChumtoleaptothebatteredcushionathissideandsetoffforCraigswold。Longbeforeteno’clockhishorsewassafelystabledattheCraigswoldlivery,andFerriswasleadingChumproudlythroughthewicketgateleadingintothecountry—clubgrounds。
Allhappenedasthepostmasterhadforetold。Theclerkatthewicketaskedhimhisname,fumbledthroughaledgerandapileofenvelopesandpresentlyhandedFerrisanumberedtag。
